Masculine vs feminine courageI was online chatting to a friend for whom English is a second language when I said “Wow! She’s got balls.” Then of course, I had to explain the figure of speech. After the conversation I thought, isn’t it interesting that we equate balls with courage? As if women do not have courage. If I said “Wow, she’s got breasts!” people would look at me funny. What else do we equate with being strong and resilient? “Wow, she’s got a pecs! She’s got abs! She’s got a big forehead!” Hm, nothing was really fitting. “She’s got guts.” is the best we can do.

Is it a masculine trait to be courageous? Men’s courage seems to be the only type we notice. It’s possible that the courage of a woman is not always about being loud and physical, wielding a sword against the evil dragon (boss/mother in law/establishment/government etc.) where other people notice anyway.

Is it any less courageous to :

  • walk away from someone you love who has been abusing you for years
  • refuse giving money to your drug addict teenager
  • turn off the life support of your little child
  • put your life on the line birthing a child in the first place
  • put years of tenderness into caring for an older person who has no gratitude
  • put food on your children’s plate and go without
  • admit to the world you have a mental health issue

Of course, men are faced with these very same issues (apart from the birthing) but I wonder how often women are courageous once in a lifetime or on a daily basis and there isn’t really any figure of speech we regularly use to show how admirable that is. Yes, courage can be a feminine trait, just in quieter ways.

Many would say the courage of a woman is stronger, particularly being faced with the oppression of the world. In a recent channelled conversation the observation from the higher perspective came back to me, as I was interviewing, that the oppression originally came from women because of the fear of their own incredible power. This is very opposite to how I would have thought about it (ie. I was blaming history’s men) so I’m interested to hear more about that perspective and understand it better.

More channelling interviews needed I expect. I’ll keep you posted!
