I’ve only just discovered this great TED talk by Eve Ensler, author of the ground-breaking “Vagina Monologues”.
She speaks of the “girl cell” which I call Feminine Aspect that is found in all of us, both men and women.
The Girl Cell is the aspect of us which is emotional, compassionate, full of expression, vulnerable, creative and nurturing. It is the cell we are all taught from a very young age is weak and shameful – particularly boys.
- Big boys don’t cry
- Hide your emotions
- You must be tough to be successful
And yet, the more I look around, the more I see both men and women abandoning this old way of thinking. It just doesn’t feel authentic.
We all have a tough side, a pro-active side that is the Yang. But we all have the Yin in us as well and by denying that and hiding it from others we lose half of ourselves.
If the Male and Female are of equal balance in power, but we side more with the Masculine aspect way of thinking and doing, is it any wonder why there is so much war, greed and violence in the world?
If men and women could freely express their feminine aspect of nurturing and compassion what a different world – politically, economically and personally – we would live in. What amazing relationships we would have. The satisfaction of that would be priceless.
The video goes through some horrific stories, it’s not for the faint hearted. Take a look if you can bear it. I’d love to hear your thoughts on it in the Comments section below.
